  • Fact Check: Christian rite FALSELY viral as Muslim father marrying his daughter The video originally shows a Catholic family performing their daughter's first communion. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check The video originally shows a Catholic family performing their daughter’s first communion, a Christian rite. A video of a man on one knee putting a ring on the finger of a girl child has taken the internet by storm. Those sharing the clip claimed that it showed a Muslim man marrying his daughter. An X user wrote, "Beauty of #Islam. Here age does not matter for making a wife. There should be lust for the #daughter in the heart." India Today Fact Check, however, found that the video shows a man called Gino Coppola performing a Christian ritual called communion. Our Probe A reverse search of keyframes of the viral video led us to the Instagram account of Gino Coppola. Here, we found a video that showed the same incident captured from a different angle. He shared the video on October 23 with the caption, "I’ll be your knight forever, I love you so much, Daddy". Coppola also shared another video with the same girl child and a woman on October 22 and captioned it, "Congratulations to our baby on her first communion!! We love you!!". We also came across another recent Instagram post by Coppola featuring the same girl and the woman with a caption, "Daddy on my communion day I wanna be a princess!! These were your words, and the words given are kept!! Even if you are to us every day!!! I hope I satisfied you we love you.” This indicated that the video likely did not show a wedding but rather it was from a communion ceremony. For further proof, India Today Fact Check contacted Gino Coppola. He confirmed that the viral claim was false. He said that they were an Italian Catholic family, and the video showed the first communion of his daughter. First communion is a Christian rite that’s performed across various sects. Therefore, it is clear that the viral claim is completely false. Please share it on our at 73 7000 7000 You can also send us an email at factcheck@intoday.com
