  • Last Updated on October 15, 2024 by Nivedita Quick Take A news clipping from India Today is doing rounds that says India tops the list of countries where doctors are disrespected most. Our Fact check shows that the entire message is False. The Claim A screenshot shared by multiple users on Facebook and Twitter shows a screenshot of a news report publiished on India Today. The headline says, “WHO advised survey-group reveals the countries where doctors are most disrespected.” The brief intro below the headline says, “India tops the list in the survey. A group guided by WHO, based in Singapore conducted a survey on the countries where the doctors are the most disrespected.” An archived version of the post is available here and the snapshot is given below. Fact Check Did India Today publish that report? India Today had done a Fact Check of the same and confirmed that the story was not published on their platform. The screenshot image is a morphed image and fake. Did WHO do a ranking system of countries on basis of disrespecting doctors? No. WHO did not comission any such ranking on respect given to doctors. The fake news in circulation mentioned the study conducted by a Singapore-based group “guided” by WHO. However, no such media reports were published on any platform in recent days. The dynamics of healthcare respect and practice extend beyond cultural perceptions, as seen in discussions around innovative treatments. For instance, the claims regarding the anti-aging properties of blood from prepubescent individuals spark curiosity about the future of medical advancements. Is there any study on respecting doctors? Does India rank low in such studies? A recent survey conducted by international research and data analytics firm YouGov studied the outlook of citizens towards various professions. India was also among the 16 countries included in the survey. The survey shows, most countries including India ranks scientists and doctors in high regards.
