New Delhi (Vishvas News). Following the coup of the Sheikh Hasina government, several images and videos of disrespect towards the Indian tricolour have surfaced from Bangladesh. In connection with this, a picture is going viral on social media where a Muslim man is seen insulting the Indian flag while holding the flag of Bangladesh. The picture is being shared with the claim that he insulted the Indian flag amidst the ongoing political turmoil in Bangladesh.
Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral picture was created using an Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool. However, many genuine pictures and videos depicting insulting the tricolour have also surfaced in Bangladesh.
What is going viral?
Facebook user ‘Shankar Pandey’ shared the viral picture with the caption, ” Look at this ungrateful community, this is called namak haram. Bangladeshis who lived on the crumbs thrown by India are now getting inspired by Pakistan and bringing out the Islamic fanaticism inside their minds and trampling the Indian tricolour flag under their feet. If India wanted, these people would die of hunger, they would have no ration, no clothes to wear and no way to escape. Truly, these people cannot belong to anyone.”
Investigation
To verify the authenticity of the viral picture, we carefully reviewed it and found that the eyes of the person were strange. Also, he has no big toe on his foot and the remaining toes have an odd structure. This raised the suspicion that the photo might have been AI-generated.
Taking the investigation further, we searched the photo using AI image detection tools. Hive Moderation indicated a 94% probability of the photo being AI-generated.
Additionally, another tool, True Media, also suggested the possibility of the photo being AI-generated.
For more information, we contacted Ai expert Bhargav Valera. Speaking about the viral picture, he explained that such pictures can be easily created using AI tools, but these tools often leave many flaws. For example, in this picture, the person’s eyes are irregular and the shape of the toes is also incorrect.
According to a report published on Asianet’s website on November 30, 2024, incidents of India’s national flag being insulted were reported at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka University, and Noakhali Science and Technology University. The videos of these incidents went viral on social media.
Finally, we scanned the account of the user who shared the AI-generated photo. The profile revealed that the user has about five thousand friends and identifies as a resident of Bangalore. The user is associated with a group that shares posts related to a specific ideology.
