New Delhi (Vishvas News). After the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025, a post has gone viral on social media featuring a letter being shared in the name of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Some users are claiming that Kejriwal wrote to the Election Commission (EC) demanding special facilities for Muslims, including exemptions from ID checks and increased voting time.
Vishvas News investigated and found the viral letter to be fake. It lacks a date and there is no record of Arvind Kejriwal writing any such letter to the EC.
What is in the Viral Post?
On February 6, 2025, Facebook user ‘Manish Soni’ posted the alleged letter (archive link), stating: “Look at how Kejriwal is demanding from the Election Commission on behalf of Muslims. He is asking for a vehicle to transport Muslims, that Muslims should neither be asked for ID proof nor undergo checks, and that the voting time for Muslims should be from 5 to 8 PM. The most significant part is that Dalits are being accused of beating up Muslims and preventing them from voting. He is a hidden traitor.”
Investigation
To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we first looked at the viral letter carefully and found that it lacked a date. Linguistically it seems as if it was written on February 4, a day before the voting.
After this, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords but did not find any news that could confirm the viral claim.
Before the assembly elections in Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal wrote to the EC demanding the appointment of an independent election observer. According to the news report published on Aaj Tak’s website on February 2, 2025, “Arvind Kejriwal has written a letter to the Election Commissioner alleging that AAP workers are being attacked in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. He demanded that along with appointing an independent election observer in the New Delhi Assembly, the safety of AAP workers should be ensured.”
According to the news published on the Live Hindustan’s website on February 2, 2025, the District Election Officer of the Delhi Election Commission, while responding to Kejriwal’s letter, stated that no written complaint has been given regarding these allegations.
We scanned Arvind Kejriwal’s X handle and found no such letter had been posted.
On January 31, a post was shared regarding the ongoing dispute over Yamuna water, featuring a letter allegedly written by Arvind Kejriwal to the EC. The letter includes a date and Arvind Kejriwal’s signature at the bottom.
On January 9, a letter addressed to the Prime Minister was posted from Kejriwal’s official X-account. It is also dated with Arvind Kejriwal’s signature at the bottom right.
A copy of the letter Arvind Kejriwal wrote to Mohan Bhagwat was uploaded on India Today’s website on January 1, 2025. It is also dated and signed at the bottom right.
By comparing the viral letter and the one written to Mohan Bhagwat, a noticeable difference can be seen between the two.
The serial number on the viral letter is NCO/25/10, which suggests the date to be February 4, 2025. However, the serial number of the letter addressed to the Prime Minister on January 8, 2025, is NCO/25/1, and the serial number of the letter written to the Election Commissioner on January 31, 2025, is NCO/25/12. This indicates that the letter with serial number NCO/25/10 must have been written in January, not in February.
To verify this, we contacted Delhi Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Meenakshi Sharma, who confirmed that Arvind Kejriwal has not written any such letter and the viral letter is fake.
Additionally, we reached out to VK Shukla, Chief Correspondent in Dainik Jagran’s Delhi State Bureau, who also termed the viral letter as fake.
Lastly, We scanned the Facebook profile of the user who shared the fake letter and found that the user has around 5000 followers and is influenced by a specific ideology.
Conclusion: A fake letter claiming to be from Arvind Kejriwal is going viral on social media Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that this letter is fake and he has not requested the EC to provide special facilities for muslims during voting in the Delhi Assembly elections.
