  • While the comedian was indeed wearing long dreadlocks and braids, it turned out to be a wig. On June 11, 2024, comedian Roseanne Barr posted a video on her official Instagram account announcing new show dates. In the video, Barr, who was promoting her upcoming standup comedy performances at the Cap City Comedy Club in Austin, Texas, was sporting a conspicuous new hairdo featuring long, platinum dreadlocks entwined with braids. Barr, 71, gave the ensuing update to her followers: "Hi, all you Biden voters. I'm going to be at Cap City Comedy Club in Austin, Texas, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, June 17, 18 and 19. Come on down if you can take it. Get your tickets on my website at roseannebarr.com, or at capcitycomedy.com. Be there or be square." The video, pinned to the top of her page, featured the comic sporting the youthful hairstyle underneath a white-and-gold "Make America Great Again" cap in support of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. The clip is indeed authentic; Barr posted it on her verified Instagram account, and it had garnered more than 27,000 likes as of this writing. Barr's dreadlocks sparked a flurry of comments from surprised followers, including one who wrote, "Love those dreads!! 👏👏You'll fit right in!" and another who exclaimed, "Rosie, do you have dreads?!? I love it you go along with your bad self girl!" Roseanne really was wearing dreadlocks in the video. They were not, however, a permanent hairstyle. On June 18, a new photo on Instagram showed the comedian onstage at her Austin standup show the night before. In that photo, she was dressed in a nightgown while wearing rollers in her short, cropped hairdo, with not a dreadlock in sight. Snopes reached out to Barr's team to ask if the hairdo she wore in the video was a hairpiece or extensions. Via email, a spokesperson confirmed that Barr was wearing a wig in the clip, and that the comedian likes to wear different wigs and headwear while recording her show, "The Roseanne Barr Podcast." This wasn't the first time a hairstyle worn by Barr has caused people to ponder. In March 2024, she surprised fans when she debuted a cropped new pixie haircut on her Instagram account, simply captioning the selfie, "Cut." The Instagram video showing Barr with long, platinum dreadlocks and braids is real and we rate it as "True." However, it was later revealed to have been a wig and did not represent a permanent change to Barr's real hairstyle, which remains a short haircut. Snopes has previously reported on Barr, including fact-checking the satirical claim that her self-titled sitcom "Roseanne" was returning to television, and that time at a GOP fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago when she urged students to "drop out of college."
