Verdict: False
The claim stems from an article published on “NewsPunch,” a website that is known for spreading “fake news.” There is no evidence the WEF made the remark.
Fact Check:
The WEF hosted its annual meeting for 2023 in Davos back in January, according to Insider. Various topics were discussed at the WEF’s annual meeting, including the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, trade, and climate issues, Reuters reported.
The Twitter post, viewed over 5,000 times, purports the WEF called for the legalization of sex and marriage with animals to promote inclusion. The post further claims, “there’s a lot of information on the internet that says Spain has legalized this.”
The claim is false. There are no credible news reports indicating the WEF made the purported remark. Likewise, the claim is neither mentioned on the WEF’s website nor on its verified social media accounts. In addition, a keyword search does not generate any results indicating Spain has legalized sex and marriage with animals.
The claim stems from a Mar. 1 article published by the website, “NewsPunch.” A “Liability Disclaimer” included on the site’s “Terms of Use” page indicates it “makes no representations about the suitability, reliability, availability, timeliness, and accuracy of the information, software, products, services and related graphics contained on the site for any purpose.”
The site, which was previously known as “YourNewsWire,” is described as “one of the most well-known purveyors of fake news online,” according to a 2019 article from Mashable. (RELATED: Did Bill Gates Withdraw From The World Economic Forum Summit?)
The NewsPunch article references a new Animal Welfare Law that supposedly decriminalizes sex with animals in Spain.
Although the Spanish parliament passed a new animal rights law on Feb. 9, the law does not decriminalize sex with animals, according to Reuters. The law, however, bars hunting with dogs, bans the sale of pets in pet shops and establishes prison sentences for animal abusers, among other measures, the outlet reported.
