  • Fact Check: Jumbo save? No, this video of an elephant rescue is AI-generated The channel that first shared the video has many similar AI-generated videos of animals. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video is not real. It's AI-generated. Imagine an elephant stuck on a narrow cliff, being rescued by a gigantic crane. What a magnificent sight that would be, right? You don’t have to really imagine it — this scene has been widely shared in a video on social media. One Facebook user who shared this fantastic video wrote, "US police rescued an elephant stuck in a rocky mountain". India Today Fact Check found that the video is not real. It's AI-generated. OUR PROBE Reverse searching keyframes from the viral clip led us to the same video uploaded to a YouTube channel named AThing Inside on October 2. It was titled "US police rescued an elephant stuck in a rocky mountain". As we write this article, the video has been viewed over a million times. The video’s description noted that it was "altered or synthetic content", meaning its sound or visuals were "significantly edited or digitally generated". After checking carefully, we found many other animal-related AI-made videos uploaded to the AThing Inside channel. In several videos, these animals were shown in unrealistic situations, such as a lion standing on top of a crocodile, or a panda eating a giant python. All these videos carried the same "altered or synthetic content" disclaimer. The channel’s bio says: "I will turn dry videos into new funny videos". Other factors also point to the video being AI-generated. The elephant’s skin looks very smooth and shiny. At one point, it appeared to have more than one tail. The cliff’s terrain changes from scene to scene. And the people in the background move in a manner that’s often observed in AI-generated videos. We searched online to find out if such an incident had happened in the US, but we found no credible media report that could confirm it. Thus, it is clear that this video of an elephant stuck on a rocky mountain is fake.
