Below is the investigation we conducted to find out the accuracy of news that was published regarding the health condition of Anura Kumara Dissanayake of National People’s Power (NPP)

A medical report, purportedly by a doctor at Asiri Hospital,, was published on social media by the ‘Investigative Journalist’, with the title, “Anura has depression – Here is the evidence”. Below is the relevant description.
“Anura has depression – Here is the evidence!”
Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the Presidential candidate of National People’s Power, has taken an emergency break due to an illness.
Due to that illness, he had decided not to participate in several rallies.
The “Investigative Journalist” team worked to find out about this because it was regarding a presidential candidate who demands state power in the country.
Because of that, the people have a clear right to know about his illness. The team of “Investigative Journalists, who always stand with people, investigated this, to protect the rights of the people.
As you know, the “Investigative Journalist” group is a group of independent unbiased journalists who have even received international awards for their investigative journalism.
Regardless of the party, our team has exposed many thefts, frauds, and corruption in every political party in the country.
Our investigation revealed that Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake was treated by an island’s renewed psychiatric specialist through a private hospital due to an illness on the 6th.

Also, another post was circulated stating that Lawyer, Mr. Sunil Watagala, had sent a letter to Asiri Hospital regarding this matter.

Confirmation from the National People’s Power
In this regard, the National People’s Party mentioned that the doctor within their party recommended Mr Anura rest for a day due to excessive exertion in the past days. However, they noted that it was not a condition to be hospitalized and treated. They also mentioned that the medical report was fake and that he did not receive treatment from Asiri Hospital.
Confirmation from the Asiri Hospital:
The Asiri Hospital confirmed that the medical report circulated, claiming that a doctor prescribed it at their hospital, is a fabricated medical report.
Below is the Facebook post the hospital published, confirming that the viral prescription is a false document.
Also, the photos that were circulated showing Mr Sunil Handunneththi and the party’s lawyer, Sunil Watagala, went to file a case against the doctor who disclosed the above-mentioned medical recommendation to social media are photos that were taken when he went to file a complaint to the Supreme Court regarding the sugar tax fraud back in 2021.
Also, Sirasa TV's official Facebook page has not published such news, and the Web Manager of Sirasa TV also confirmed that no such news was published.
Even mainstream media have not reported such news.
The media department of National People’s Power also denied these notes and stated that this is false information.

Our investigation shows that the posts circulating claiming that Mr Anura Kumara Dissanayake has a mental illness and that a specialist at the Asiri Hospital prescribed it is fake. The Asiri Hospital confirms that the circulating medical prescription is fabricated.
