Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s three-day pre-wedding extravaganza in Gujarat’s Jamnagar will see celebrities from India and around the world. Singer Rihanna, actor Ranbir Kapoor, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerburg, and cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni are some of the big names attending the event.
However, one viral video that’s caught everyone's attention purports to show Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma allegedly on their way to attend the festivities. Its archive can be seen here.
India Today Fact Check found the viral video is from June 2022. Both Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma are currently in London and will not be attending the pre-wedding event.
Our Probe
We performed a reverse search on the screengrabs of the viral video and found that a similar video was shared by paparazzo Manav Manglani on his Instagram account on June 8, 2022. He captioned the video, “Beautiful Couple, Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma at the airport today.” In both videos, Sharma could be seen sporting an oversized shirt with denim shorts, and Kohli, a t-shirt with white trousers. We found several other similarities, including Sharma’s Christian Dior bag.
We also found several media reports from the same day, about the couple’s trip to the airport. As per India Today, “Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma arrived at Mumbai airport walking hand in hand while their daughter Vamika was missing.”
On February 20, the couple announced the birth of their second child, Akaay. Reportedly, both Kohli and Sharma have been in London since the birth of their child on February 15. In January, Kohli also withdrew from the Indian test squad for the first two matches against England, citing personal reasons.
India Today’s sports editor Vikrant Gupta also confirmed that the couple is currently in London and will not be visiting Jamnagar for the Ambani pre-wedding event.
Thus, it's more than clear that this old video was shared with a false claim.
