Fact Check
Claim
Crocodile wading through a waterlogged road in a Delhi suburb amid the flood situation.
Fact
Video is of an incident in Vadodara, Gujarat, in August 2019.
Several social media users are sharing a video of a crocodile wading through a flooded road, snapping at passers-by, claiming that it happened in a Delhi neighbourhood following the record increase in the water levels of the Yamuna River over the past week.
The archived versions of the tweet can be seen here and here.
The Yamuna River breached the “high flood level” last Wednesday, its highest level on record, prompting mass evacuations and causing havoc as the northern states report rising deaths from heavy flooding. As of Monday, flood water reportedly receded from Delhi with a decrease in water levels of the Yamuna River, but several areas in the capital still remain under water.

Newschecker ran a keyword search for “crocodile Delhi road”, which did not throw up any credible news reports of such an incident. However, while scanning through the comments of the viral video, we saw users pointing out that it was an old video from Vadodara.
A relevant keyword search led us to these tweets from August 3, 2019, sharing what seems to be another angle of the viral video, albeit a clearer one.
A comparison of the screenshots of the viral video (right) and the 2019 tweet indicate it is of the same incident.
A relevant keyword search led us to this NDTV report, dated August 4, 2019, titled “Chilling Crocodile Rescue From Flooded Street In Gujarat”. “Battered by heavy rain, Gujarat’s Vadodara saw a dramatic “rescue” on this week – not of humans or pets caught left stranded by rising water levels, but that of a crocodile,” read the description.
