  • In December 2024, videos surfaced on YouTube alleging that rapper and television personality Snoop Dogg was denied first-class boarding on a flight because of his skin color, without any evidence to support the claim. The false rumor stemmed from a video posted by the purported celebrity gossip YouTube channel Chidi & Ivy Studios. It was titled: "Snoop Dogg Denied First-Class Boarding Due to Skin Color – His Response Shocked Everyone!" The clip was accompanied by a thumbnail allegedly showing a split screen of Snoop Dogg and a flight attendant apparently being held back by airport law enforcement. Artificial intelligence video-creation tools seemingly helped create that image, as well as the video's narration, scripting and sequencing. (Chidi & Ivy Studios/YouTube) Without naming a source for its information, or identifying the airport or departing and arriving destinations in which the alleged incident occurred, the narrator began the video by saying: Snoop Dogg was prevented from boarding a plane first class due to his skin color. What he did next will make you cry. The luxury of first class was nothing new to Snoop Dogg. As one of the most iconic figures in the entertainment industry, he was used to the finer things in life. Yet, on this day, what should have been a simple first-class flight turned into an unforgettable lesson about humanity and dignity. The bustling airport lounge was filled with travelers from all walks of life. Snoop, dressed in a sharp black suit with his signature gold chain glinting under the lights, approached the boarding gate. He was calm, a vision of poise and confidence — but that calm was about to be tested. "Excuse me, Sir," a crisp, authoritative voice called out just as he handed over his boarding pass. Snoop turned, meeting with the stern gaze of a flight attendant. Her name tag read Clara, but her expression bore no warmth. "I'm sorry, but I need to verify your ticket." Snoop raised an eyebrow, his easy smile never faltering. "Is there a problem?" he asked, holding up his first-class boarding pass. Clara's eyes flicked to the pass and back to him. "First-class boarding is reserved for eligible passengers," she stated, her tone clipped. "You'll need to step aside." The room seemed to pause. Gasps rippled through the line behind him as travelers recognized who was being questioned. Snoop's fans murmured among themselves, some pulling out their phones to record the unfolding scene. Snoop took a deep breath, his composure steady. "Ma'am, I am eligible; my ticket says first class." Clara hesitated, her face flushing slightly, but instead of apologizing, she doubled down. That footage, uploaded on Dec. 4, 2024, had been viewed more than 79,000 times as of this writing. Meanwhile, a handful of YouTube videos with the same or similar false claims collectively gained hundreds of thousands of views, with one video in particular, uploaded on Dec. 7 by the channel VeedStory, receiving more than 736,000 views as of this writing. The clips emerged as Snoop Dogg, real name Calvin Broadus Jr., publicized the finale of Season 26 of NBC's singing competition series "The Voice," which aired on Dec. 10, 2024, and on which Snoop is a co-judge, plus his new record titled "Missionary," set for release on Dec. 13. However, there was no evidence to support the assertion that Snoop Dogg was disallowed the use of his first-class seat on a flight, let alone because he is Black, and no reputable news outlet had reported on such an incident. Moreover, the video's narrator also claimed that "later on social media, Snoop shared the experience in a heartfelt post," but there was no evidence of Snoop sharing such a post on either his Instagram or X accounts. If, hypothetically speaking, there was even a sliver of truth to the claim — for instance, if Snoop had been removed from a flight due to unruly behavior — reputable media outlets would have interviewed the parties involved and documented the ordeal. For example, in 2006, British newspaper The Guardian and airport business website Aviation Pros reported on Snoop being held by police after a brawl at Heathrow Airport. However, no such story had emerged in 2024. In short, the claim appeared to be made up from whole cloth. The Chidi & Ivy Studios YouTube channel's "About" section reads as follows: MY VIDEOS ARE FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY !!! 🖊️ 📝 Welcome to Chidi & Ivy Studios – where storytelling meets social justice. We create fictional narratives that explore critical issues such as police dynamics, racism, inequality, and injustice. Through thought-provoking and engaging stories, we aim to spark meaningful conversations and inspire change. Join us as we creatively shed light on the challenges and triumphs within our society. Subscribe to be part of a community using fiction as a powerful tool for social reflection and progress. **Disclaimer:** All stories are fictional representations meant to highlight the impact of prejudice and the importance of equality. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or real events is purely coincidental. Our videos aim to encourage reflection on treating everyone with dignity, respect, and fairness. Despite the video's underlying claim being false, the clip could seem believable because in the past he had been banned from flying British Airways, as reported by Aviation Pros, cited above, and from entering several countries, including Norway and Australia, due to his past reputation and behavior. Videos featuring baseless celebrity rumors are often posted to generate views and comments from YouTube users. Some messages indicate that people interpret the videos as real news. This was not the first misleading rumor related to Snoop Dogg that had captured social media users' attention. For example, we previously fact-checked the false claim that he was arrested for conspiracy to murder Donald Trump, and we also debunked a scam ad for weight-loss gummies featuring Snoop and his good friend, Martha Stewart.
