The Los Angeles Galaxy will be without Mexican midfielder Jonathan dos Santos when Major League Soccer returns from its coronavirus shutdown. The 30-year-old former FC Barcelona and Villarreal player needs "minimally invasive hernia surgery" that is expected to sideline him for six weeks, the Galaxy said Wednesday. He won't travel with the team on Monday for the MLS is Back tournament that kicks off on July 8 at the sports complex at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Dos Santos may not be the only player the Galaxy will be missing in Orlando. ESPN reported Wednesday that MLS Most Valuable Player Carlos Vela, whose wife is pregnant, had yet to make a final decision on whether he would join the team in isolation for the tournament in Orlando. MLS suspended play after just two rounds of matches in March because of the coronavirus pandemic.
