| - A 37-year-old man appeared in court in Britain on Tuesday accused of promoting terrorism by posting far-right videos online, including one apparently celebrating the New Zealand mosque massacre. Michael Joseph Ian Nugent, from Ashford, south of London, allegedly shared footage of the attack in Christchurch on the one-year anniversary of the atrocity in March this year. He is also alleged to have posted the manifesto of the perpetrator of the attack, Brenton Tarrant, who is due to be sentenced in New Zealand on Thursday. Tarrant, 29, has admitted 51 counts of murder, 40 of attempted murder and one of terrorism, and is expected to be the first person in the country to be jailed for life without parole. London's Metropolitan Police charged Nugent on Tuesday with two counts of encouragement of terrorism and one of disseminating a terrorist publication. He also faces nine counts of collection of information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism. In a five-minute appearance by videolink at Westminster Magistrates Court, Nugent spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth. No pleas were entered and he was remanded in custody until another hearing at the Central Criminal Court, the Old Bailey, on October 2. phz/jwp/jj
