  • Ten-man Swansea climbed to second place in the Championship after Conor Hourihane's late free-kick secured a 1-1 draw with Brentford on Wednesday. Brentford dominated for large spells at the Liberty Stadium and took the lead through Tarique Fosu's header after Kyle Naughton was sent off for two bookable offences. But Hourihane rescued Swansea with a swerving free-kick from out wide that evaded everyone before finding the back of the net. The result moved the Welsh side back above Watford into the top two on goal difference, while it is now 17 matches since fourth placed Brentford last lost in the league. Cardiff's new manager Mick McCarthy saw his side fight back from two goals down to rescue a 2-2 draw at Barnsley. McCarthy's first match since replacing the sacked Neil Harris got off to a bad start as Barnsley struck with goals from Mads Andersen and Cauley Woodrow. But Sheyi Ojo pulled one back for the Bluebirds just before the hour mark and Kieffer Moore headed the equaliser in the closing stages. Coventry ended a near two-month home drought with a 2-0 win over struggling Sheffield Wednesday at St Andrew's. On loan Brighton striker Viktor Gyokeres put Coventry ahead just before the hour mark and Jamie Allen sealed the points in stoppage-time. Gyokeres' goal ended a barren run spanning five-and-a-half hours and three goalless draws for Coventry at their temporary home. Victory moved Coventry up to 17th, while Wednesday are second bottom and six points from safety. Rotherham boosted their survival bid with a 3-0 win at Middlesbrough. The Millers remain in the bottom three but have moved to within two points of 21st-placed Derby thanks to goals from Matt Crooks, Michael Smith and Ryan Giles. smg/dj
