After dragging on for two decades, negotiations over a fisheries subsidies agreement must wrap up, Nigeria's Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, newly selected head of the World Trade Organization (WTO), said Tuesday. "This cannot go on. We must bring it to a conclusion. We can't afford to fail on this," she told AFP in an interview, a day after she formally accepted her new position. The organization missed the end-2020 deadline to secure a deal on banning fisheries subsidies that contribute to over-fishing, and the official stressed that it is important both to the organization to show results and to sustainability goals. hs/bgs
