Suriname police seized more than 900 kilograms of cocaine and arrested a Cuban man in a bust on top of one of the country's tallest mountains, the force said on Thursday. The Cuban was left to guard the cocaine at an airfield on the Tafelberg plateau in the Central Nature Reserve when police swooped on Wednesday. They said the drugs had likely been dropped off by airplane. Suriname President Chan Santokhi said the raid came following an agreement made with Guyana President Irfaan Ali to collaborate on anti-narcotics operations. "This is the first result of the cooperation based on excellent information sharing," said Santokhi. "We have seized drugs and other evidence, but we need those responsible for the supply too," he added. Police said the drugs would be taken to the capital Paramaribo for further investigation and will likely be incinerated next month. str/bc/bgs
