The record 45-time league winners will face AEK Athens on September 12 at the Panthessaliko Stadium in the northern city of Volos and their opening games of the top-flight games will be rescheduled. A draw will be held on Friday for the league's fixtures and as it stands, no spectators will be allowed at the venues due to health regulations related to the coronavirus pandemic. Athens police refused to allow the cup final to be held at the capital's Rizoupoli Stadium as planned for fear that fans from both clubs would gather outside the ground and clash, even though no supporters would be allowed inside. The final was originally scheduled to be held in July but police rejected it for worries of violence and then it was rescheduled for August 30 at the Athens Olympic Stadium. It was then delayed due to a third Olympiakos player testing positive for Covid-19, forcing the team into quarantine. The Athens Olympic Stadium was rejected for the new date because the pitch is being repaired. It remains to be seen if Olympiakos and AEK will be allowed to use newly signed players or must play the fixture with squads from the 2019-2020 season, a decision which the Greek federation will await from FIFA. le/iwd
