  • San Diego Padres outfielder Tommy Pham was recovering in hospital Monday night after suffering a stab wound in an altercation outside a southern California strip club on the weekend, US media reported on Monday. Pham, 32, was stabbed after he asked two people who were arguing near his car to move, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. Police told the newspaper the incident happened around 10:30 pm local time outside the Pacers Showgirls International club. Pham was listed in good condition. Pham was stabbed in the lower back but his injuries are not life-threatening, the newspaper said. There were no further details on his injuries. Police said no charges or arrests have been made, but they are investigating. "I'd like to thank the incredible medical staff at UC San Diego Health for taking such great care of me last night. I truly appreciate the hard work of the (San Diego Police Department) as well as they continue their search for the suspects," Pham said in a statement. "While it was a very traumatic and eye-opening experience for me, I'm on the road to recovery and I know I'll be back to my offseason training routine in no time." Pacers touts itself on its website as the No. 1 strip club in San Diego. San Diego has begun to gradually reopen bars, restaurants, gyms and museums despite the Covid-19 pandemic which has killed 16,500 and infected more than 850,000 Californians. Pham was born to a Vietnamese father and an African American mother and is one of just a few players of Vietnamese descent to play in Major League Baseball. He and his twin sister were raised by their single mother, Tawana, in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 577 career games, Pham has a career .273 average with 82 homers and 251 RBIs. He joined the Padres from the Tampa Bay Rays in a trade last December. gph/th
