A picture of Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari bursting firecrackers is going viral on social media. India Today Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA) has found that the picture is five years old.

The image is five years old
Thick smog has virtually converted the Capital into a gas chamber. With citizens finding it difficult to breathe, politicians have indulged in blame game. Amid this, a picture of Delhi BJP chief and Lok Sabha MP Manoj Tiwari bursting firecrackers is going viral on social media.
The claim along with the picture says that instead of sympathising with the current situation in Delhi, Tiwari is happily bursting firecrackers. A tweet by the BJP leader in Hindi is also attached with the picture, which in English means, My eyes are burning in Delhi today. And yours?
India Today Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA) has found that the picture is five years old. This picture was taken during Chhath Puja in Delhi in 2014.
The misleading post was put up by Facebook user Pulkit Chaturvedi’ on Sunday, November 3. Till the filing of this story, this post had already been shared more than 650 times. The archived version of the post can be seen here.

AFWA probe
Upon reverse image search, we found a news report by The Pioneer’ in which the viral picture was used. This article was published on October 29, 2014. In that year, a public holiday was declared on the occasion of Chhath Puja. The article dealt with that piece of news.
We also found this picture in the online photo gallery of Outlook’ magazine. According to Outlook’, Tiwari was celebrating Chhath Puja with Purvanchalis in Delhi.
We could not find any recent picture of Tiwari celebrating Diwali with firecrackers.
