  • A rumor circulating online in January 2025 claimed that U.S. first lady Melania Trump sat down for an interview in Los Angeles with a liberal TV host named Alex Brooks. For example, several users shared the story in posts on Facebook, TikTok, Truth Social and X. These social media posts linked to various YouTube videos. One such video posted on the Elite Stories YouTube channel on Jan. 21, 2025, was titled "Melania Trump Hilariously DESTROYS Liberal TV Host on LIVE, Her Response Left Everyone Speechless." By Jan. 24, the clip had received 768,000 views. The clip's description read, in part, "What happens when a seasoned talk show host tries to put Melania Trump on the spot with deeply personal and provocative questions? In this unexpected live interview, Melania's calm yet sharp responses leave the audience stunned — and the host struggling to keep control." However, this interview never occurred. A disclaimer in the description of the Elite Stories video read, "The stories presented on this channel are entirely fictional and crafted solely for entertainment. Any resemblance to real events, individuals or situations is purely coincidental and unintentional. These narratives are not intended to depict, reference or represent any actual occurrences, persons, or entities." A Google search showed that no news media outlets ever reported about a TV host named Alex Brooks interviewing Trump. Additionally, the video's narrator never mentioned exactly when or where the purported confrontation occurred. Further, the video displayed the YouTube-provided label for "altered or synthetic content," a disclaimer to inform viewers that the clip features narration, scripting, editing and visuals generated by artificial intelligence tools. In other words, everything viewers see and hear in the video is fake — including the thumbnail image. Even with the aspects of fiction and AI fakery, many users still wrote comments indicating they believed the interview truly happened. For example, one user whose comment received hundreds of likes said, "Wow, Melania's response was sharp, classy, and absolutely unforgettable! This moment was pure gold — what a way to handle the situation!" A different response with more than 1,000 likes read, "Alex really thought he could break her?? What a jerk Go Melania!!!!!" We previously reported on similar AI-generated YouTube videos telling made-up stories about U.S. President Donald Trump's family members. For instance, one rumor claimed Hunter Biden, former President Joe Biden's son, tried to humiliate Barron Trump at a charity gala. Similar to the interview with Alex Brooks, the charity gala also never happened.
