Government food subsidies should be stopped for alcohol buyers. Those who have the facility to buy alcohol can definitely buy food. When we give them free food they pay and buy alcohol.” To verify the veracity of the claim, we conducted a keyword search for ‘Ratan Tata liquor Aadhaar card’ led us to multiple reports from 2021 clarifying that Tata has not made any such statement. A report by NDTV stated, “Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, flagged the post as fake. “This was not said by me. Thank you,” the 83-year-old wrote while sharing a screenshot of the post, along with a GIF with the words “Fake News”. We further found that the image has been doing the rounds on social media platforms for the past year. Tata had earlier clarified via an Instagram story that he did not make the viral statement. He shared the viral image and wrote “This was not said by me. Thank You.” Newschecker Hindi Team, who debunked the claim last year, had taken the screengrab of Tata’s Instagram story clarifying that the viral statement has been falsely attributed to him.
