The photo of a street light in Lahore was edited to make it look like a UFO. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This photo shows a street light in Lahore during a densely fogged evening in Lahore, Pakistan. The UFO was edited into the photo. Every now and then, we come across half-baked stories about unidentified flying objects, also known as UFOs, being spotted in various corners of the world. Why should Pakistan be any different? Just days after we entered 2022, many shared a photo of a supposed UFO, spotted in Lahore, Pakistan. A Twitter user sharing the photo wrote, “UFO spotted in Lahore, Received this image. Around #earthquake a friend messaged me he says he has seen a UFO at the time to earthquake. This picture is of yesterday night.. Source is legit.” Earthquake tremors were felt in Lahore and several cities on the Pakistani side of Punjab on January 4, 2023. The epicentre of the 4.1 magnitude quake was recorded 34 km west of Lahore and 12 km west of Sheikhupura. The archived versions of similar claims can be seen here, here, here. AFWA found that the viral photo of a UFO was edited. The photo of a street light in Lahore was edited to make it look like a UFO. AFWA Probe A reverse image search of the viral photo led us to a similar image, but without any UFOs visible in it. A Twitter user, Asad, posted this photo on January 3. As per the photo's caption, “Smog/Fog in Lahore at 5:57 PM, Today.” An archived version of this tweet can be seen here. To get to the bottom of the matter, AFWA contacted Asad. When we asked him about the details of this photo, Asad said that the photo was taken by him with his Samsung Galaxy A53 phone. He said that this photo was taken at Abdullah Haroon Road, Lake City, Lahore, at 5:57 pm on January 3. He further added he had no idea why people are using the photo he has taken to show UFOs in Pakistan. Here is the comparison between the viral picture with the original one. He also mailed us the original version of the photo. We then extracted the photo’s Exif data and came to know that the photo was taken on January 3, 2023, at 6:01 pm. The time, date, and name of the mobile manufacturer further confirmed the details provided by him. We then searched the internet to find news about UFOs spotted in Lahore, Pakistan. We found no such news reports which could confirm the claim. Thus, it is clear that the viral tweet of a UFO spotted in Lahore is untrue. The picture is edited.
