  • Last Updated on July 19, 2024 by Nivedita Quick Take A video doing rounds on social media and via WhatsApp shows a doctor explaining how to use nebuliser get Oxygen. The doctor explains how this can replace the need for oxygen cylinders to severely acute COVID patients. We fact-checked and found that the claim is false. The Claim “He is Dr Alok from Sarvodaya Hospital Faridabad, He has shown an excellent technique using nebulizer to improve the levels of blood oxygen level. In today’s scenario of Oxygen crisis this can save lives of many. Proning is also a technique but request everyone to watch it once,” reads the post that shared the video. The post can be seen here. Fact Check What is a Nebuliser? A nebulizer is a small machine that turns liquid medicine into a mist that can be inhaled directly into the lungs of patients suffering from lung diseases. Is Dr. Alok’s claim supported by scientific evidence? No. There is no scientific evidence that nebuliser can supply Oxygen from environment and replace Oxygen cylinders. In an official Tweet Sarvodaya Hospital discredited the video saying this technique “has not been backed by any evidence or scientific study,” and “does not reflect any medical advice.” Dr Arvinder Singh Soin, Group Chairman at Medanta Hospital, also rubbished the claim on Twitter.
