  • Fact Check: ITC clarifies halal-certified Aashirvad Atta is not sold in India An image of Aashirvaad atta with a Halal-certified logo is being shared virally on X (Twitter) with the claim to boycott all the ITC products as they are Halal certified. Claim :ITC is selling its halal-certified products, like Aashirvad atta, in the Indian market. Fact :The picture shows the export product of Aashirvad Atta, halal certified products are not sold in India. An image of Aashirvaad atta with a Halal-certified logo is being shared virally on X (Twitter) with the claim to boycott all the ITC products as they are Halal certified. The claim in Hindi goes “Halal certified. # When translated, it claims “Halal certified. # Fact Check: The claim is False. The viral image shows Aashirvaad atta which is only meant for export to countries where halal certification is a must and is not sold in India. When we searched for Aashirvaad atta, we found the website named aashirvaad.com, listing all the Indian products, where we did not find any products that are halal certified. ITC replied to an X (Twitter) user who claimed that ITC is forcing Hindus to eat food certified by extremist groups. ITC replied to this allegation with the comment: “A completely false, erroneous and mischievous message is being posted/circulated implying that Aashirvaad Atta is being sold in India with Halal logo. We would like to clarify that the pack shown in these messages is a very old Export-only pack that was never meant for sale within India. Such kind of erroneous and false messages implying that Aashirvaad Atta is being sold with a Halal logo do not help anyone. Hence, we urge all to not publish or circulate such messages. If anyone has any query related to Aashirvaad Atta or any other products of Aashirvaad please write to us at [email protected]. The claim was refuted by X (Twitter) Handle ITC Cares. They clarified that the pack shown in these messages is a very old export-only pack. Therefore, the image of the export pack of Aashirvaad atta, supposed to be supplied to countries where Halal certification is mandatory, is in circulation with a false claim. The atta in India is not Halal-certified and does not show the Halal-certification logo. The claim is False.
