  • Fact Check: Viral Claim That PM Modi Wore Islamic Skullcap In Egypt Is False The claim that Prime Minister Modi wore an Islamic cap during his visit to Egypt is false. The viral picture is edited. - By: Pallavi Mishra - Published: Jun 28, 2023 at 02:46 PM - Updated: Jul 6, 2023 at 01:30 PM New Delhi Vishvas News – In an image viral on social media, Prime Minister Narendra Modi can be seen wearing an Islamic skullcap, with captions claiming that he wore it during his recent Egypt tour. Upon investigation, Vishvas News found that the viral picture is edited and the claim is false. What’s in the viral post? Sharing the image (archive link), Facebook user ‘Subhash Dhiman’ wrote, originally in Hindi, “PM Modi can wear the skullcap in Egypt; his hesitation is only with Indian Muslims.” Twitter user ‘P.Kumar 100% follow back’ also shared the viral image with the caption, “After wearing the cap in America. Wearing the cap in Egypt!! Bakrid Mubarak Modi ji.” Investigation Upon a Google reverse image search, we found the original picture, without the skullcap added via editing, in a news article by the news agency UNI on its website, dated February 10, 2023. According to the news report, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the new campus of Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah Arabic Academy of Dawoodi Bohra community, in Mumbai and hailed its contribution to progress and nation building.” We also found this image in a tweet on the official handle of PM Modi on February 10, 2023. Here too, he was not wearing the skullcap. The caption read: “Delighted to join the programme to mark the inauguration of the new campus of @jamea_saifiyah in Mumbai. @Dawoodi_Bohras” In the collage below, the difference between the real and edited image can be seen clearly. PM Modi recently concluded a state visit to Egypt while on his way back from the US. He visited many important places during his time there, many pictures of which were shared online, but we could not find him wearing an Islamic skullcap anywhere. For additional confirmation, we contacted JP Ranjan, a journalist covering international news at Dainik Jagran, and he told us that the viral picture is not from PM Modi’s recent Egypt visit. According to the profile of the user ‘Subhash Dhiman’, who shared the fake picture, he is from Delhi and has more than 4,000 followers on Facebook. Conclusion: The claim that Prime Minister Modi wore an Islamic cap during his visit to Egypt is false. The viral picture is edited. - Claim Review : PM Modi wore Islamic cap in Egypt - Claimed By : Facebook user Subhash Dhiman' - Fact Check : False Know the truth!
