  • Is it true that the Secret Service jumped onto the stage to protect former President Donald Trump when a man in the audience shouted "Allah Akbar"? No, that's not true: The post making this claim uses a 2016 video of the incident with manipulated audio. The claim appeared in a video (archived here) on TikTok on January 10, 2024, with a caption (translated from Arabic to English by Lead Stories staff) that read: Trump gets scared when someone shouted Allah Akbar; Cowards This is what the post looked like on TikTok at the time of writing: (Source: TikTok screenshot taken on Mon Jan 15 15:43:28 2024 UTC) The post included a video of Trump delivering a speech, allegedly interrupted by someone shouting in Arabic, "Allah Akbar," a well-known phrase among Muslims meaning "God is Greater." The post claimed that in response, the Secret Service swiftly moved to surround Trump on the stage, while additional security apprehended someone near the stage. However, multiple U.S. media outlets have covered (archived here) the incident (archived here) featuring the original audio. The incident happened on March 12, 2016, when someone tried to approach the stage while then-presidential candidate Trump was addressing a campaign event in Ohio. This occurrence (archived here) garnered significant attention in the U.S. media (archived here) at that time. It is clear from these videos that the person trying to rush onto the stage did not shout "Allah Akbar." This implies that the audio was later manipulated and added to the video.
