  • Fact Check: Did PM Modi demand T20 World Cup Ind vs Eng rematch? Viral claim absolutely FALSE After India lost the 2022 Men's T20 World Cup semi-final to England, a video has gone viral with the claim that PM Modi demanded a rematch. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This is absolutely false. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not reacted to India’s loss in the semi-final. India's unfortunate loss against England in the 2022 Men's T20 World Cup semi-final has left cricket experts and fans performing a postmortem on the Indian squad’s performance. Amid this, a video is being widely shared on social media with Hindi captions like, "England has won the semi-final by foul play. So, Ind vs Eng semi-final match will be played again and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made this demand to ICC. Rohit is happy." AFWA's investigation found it was absolutely false. PM Modi has not said anything about Team India’s defeat. AFWA Probe This 3.33-minute-long video claimed in Hindi, "In the second semi-final, Indian Team lost to England by ten wickets. Indian batsmen like Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya played well and India finished his innings at 168/6 after 20 overs. Indian bowlers, however, failed to take wickets. England made 170 runs without losing any wickets, Jos Buttler scored 80, and Alex Hales 86.” It added, “But England's performance surprised everybody. How could they do this? The umpires' wrong decision made England win this match. After this, PM Narendra Modi made a big demand to the ICC. Modi said if England won the match by foul play, then I should approach ICC to organise an England vs India second semi-final again." We did not find such posts on PM Modi's social media, be it Twitter or Facebook. In fact, after Team India's win against Pakistan in the 2022 Men's T20 World Cup, Modi congratulated Indian cricketers, specifically Virat Kohli. We found news reports about this on news websites like Hindustan Times and NDTV, among many others. We also found no news reports about PM Modi’s reaction to the semi-final loss. To further verify this, AFWA spoke to sports journalist Subhapam Saha, who said that nothing of this sort had happened. Therefore, it is clear that the claim made by the viral video is absolutely false. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not called for a rematch of the 2022 Men's T20 World Cup semi-final.
