Fact Video of Himachal Pradesh’s Solan shared out of context. As multiple northern states witness incessant rainfall, a video of gushing water dragging vehicles across a flooded street between rows of buildings has surfaced on social media platforms. Facebook user Sapphireindia shared the footage with the caption, “pray for punjab 🙏 2023 #punjab #india #love #flood….,” insinuating that the video shows the situation in Punjab. The post can be seen here. Incessant rainfall over the past few days has caused massive flooding in several areas of the state, resulting in damage to property, agriculture and loss of lives. At least eight people have died and three are missing in the state due to heavy rainfall. Carrying the video, the report stated, “Swelled-up streams of murky brown water dragged along several cars with it in a Himachal Pradesh district, showed a video, capturing the devastating scenes witnessed across north India on account of heavy rain and flooding. The latest incident was reported from Parwanoo, a tourist hotspot in the Solan district of the state.” A report by ABP News, dated July 10, 2023, also carried snippets from the video to show the situation in Himachal’s Solan amid incessant rainfall.
