  • FACT CHECK: No, FEMA Isn’t Planning On Executing 70-80k People A post shared on X claims that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is planning on executing 70-80,000 people. When FEMA Accidentally Says The Quiet Part Out Loud 😳 Yep You Heard Right…..EXECUTE between 70,000- 80,000 people pic.twitter.com/PqxcISQ1M6 — {Matt} $XRPatriot (@matttttt187) October 8, 2024 Verdict: False The video’s audio is from Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin testifying in front of Congress in September 2021. He misspoke. Fact Check: Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida as a Category 3 hurricane and has left over 2 million Floridians without power and caused significant flooding and tornadoes, according to The Associated Press. Social media users are sharing a video claiming that FEMA is planning to execute 70,000-80,000 people. One user wrote, “When FEMA Accidentally Says The Quiet Part Out Loud 😳 Yep You Heard Right…..EXECUTE between 70,000- 80,000 people.” This claim is false. Check Your Fact found that the quote is from Austin, who was testifying in front of Congress about the evacuation of Kabul Airport and the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in September 2021. He meant evacuate, not execute, and it also had nothing to do with the FEMA response. Look, we’re sorry, but for the second day in a row, Defense Sec. Lloyd Austin accidentally says the U.S. planned to “execute” 70-80,000 people from Afghanistan. Like yesterday, he quickly corrected to “evacuate.” pic.twitter.com/4KiezLBLhA — The Recount (@therecount) September 29, 2021 There is no evidence FEMA is planning on executing people. Misinformation around the recent hurricanes is not new, with FEMA having a page devoted to debunking false claims. (RELATED: Did Donald Trump Donate $25 Million Dollars to Hurricane Victims?)
