The original picture was not of Babur, but of Mahatma Gandhi. - By: Urvashi Kapoor - Published: Feb 26, 2021 at 07:13 PM New Delhi (Vishvas News): The fake picture of the Congress Headquarters is going viral on social media. It is being claimed that behind the chair of Rahul Gandhi is a picture of Mughal emperor Babur. Vishvas News investigated the post and found that the original picture has been tampered with. The original picture was not of Babur, but of Mahatma Gandhi. The image got viral earlier as well and Vishvas News debunked it on April 19, 2019. Claim Facebook user Sarla Mundra posted a photo on February 23 writing: ‘The photo behind Rahul Gandhi in Congress headquarters is not of Ram, Krishna or Gandhi, it is that of Mughal emperor Babur, now you understand why Congress is against Ram temple.’ The archived version of this post can be seen here. Investigation Vishvas News used Google reverse image tool to search the photo. We found the original picture in a news report on India Today’s website. Published on December 5, 2017, this picture had no photo of the Mughal emperor, but the picture of Mahatma Gandhi. It was clear that the original picture was edited using photo editing tools and the picture of the Mughal emperor was pasted separately. The real picture is of the time when Rahul Gandhi was filing a nomination for the post of Congress President. See the original picture here. Vishvas News contacted Sanjeev Singh Congress Party’s media in-charge and he also said that the post is fake. The real picture is of Mahatma Gandhi. We scanned the account of Facebook user Sarala Mundra who shared the viral photo. We found that the user is based out of Vapi.
