Listen to Story India Today Fact Check The article being shared is from a satirical news website. A note at the end of the article states that there is no truth to it. Billionaire Elon Musk is actively looking for a new Chief Executive Officer for Twitter after a clear majority of users voted for him to step down in a poll conducted by him. Ever since he announced the golden vacancy on December 21, renowned personalities ranging from popular YouTuber MrBeast to VA Shiva Ayyadurai, the holder of the first US Copyright for email, started applying for the role. Amid speculations about the next Twitter boss, a purported news article about a former CEO of the social media website has been widely shared, leaving many enraged. “Former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal arrested for child porn”, read the headline of the viral screenshot. The report also went on to state that the arrest was made after a tip-off from Musk. AFWA found this article was published on vancouvertimes.org, a satire news website. AFWA PROBE We noticed that people called this “news report” false, with some even claiming this was from a satire news website. We then looked for news about Agrawal’s arrest but could not find any media reports related to this. Some people had also shared the link to this supposed news report. Upon visiting the website of “Vancouver Times”, we noticed a note at the bottom of the article, stating that it was satirical. It further read, “To ease confusion, the article has been added to the satire section, and a note has been added to the bottom of the article.” We checked the “About Us” page of the Vancouver Times which stated that it was a satirical website. The site said, “Vancouver Times is the most trusted source for satire on the West Coast. We write satirical stories about issues that affect conservatives.” The website’s “Disclaimer” page stated that it took no responsibility for the accuracy of the information it shared. “All information in the Service is provided ‘as is’, with no guarantee of completeness, accuracy, timeliness or of the results obtained from the use of this information,” it said. Twitter’s battle to suppress the spread of child sexual abuse on its site predates Musk’s takeover. In 2021, a civil suit was filed against Twitter for allegedly refusing to act and take down the child sexual abuse material on behalf of a minor claiming that the site made money off it. On December 16, the Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Dick Durbin sent a letter to Musk, seeking answers within a fortnight about the platform's plan to stop the spread of child abuse material.
