Meanwhile, an image is going viral on social media, showing two crying children holding a placard that reads, “SAVE BANGLIADEKHI HINSDUS.” The image is being shared widely, with many users associating it with the struggles of minorities in Bangladesh. In its investigation, Visvas News found this image to be fake and is created with the help of AI tools. What is the viral post? Instagram user ‘narendramodi1777’ (archive link) shared this picture on December 3, 2024, with the caption “The condition of ’Hindus’ in Bangladesh.” Investigation To investigate the authenticity of this post, we first scanned the picture and identified several inconsistencies. For example, the child holding the placard has six fingers on one hand. Additionally, the words ‘Bangladeshi’ and ‘Hindu’ are misspelled on the placard. The children’s faces also look artificial, raising the suspicion that the image might be AI-generated. We checked this picture with the AI image detection tool Hive Moderation, which indicated a 99.9% probability of the image being AI-generated. We also checked this image using the AI detection tool Site Engine, which determined a 99% probability that the picture is AI-generated. AI expert Ansh Mehra also confirmed that the viral picture is created using AI technology. According to reports, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will visit Bangladesh today. During his visit, he will address India’s concerns with Dhaka regarding attacks on Hindus and other minorities.
