  • Fact Check: Obama DID NOT lose control of crowd, pro-Obama chants replaced with profane anti-Biden slogans A video of former US President Barack Obama being shouted down by the crowd with profane chants has gone viral. Let us find out the truth behind the video. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video is doctored. In the original video, the crowd chanted in support of Barack Obama as he addressed a heckler during his rally. With about a week left until the midterm elections, which will set the stage for the 2024 presidential elections in the United States, a video of former US President Barack Obama being shouted down by the crowd with profane chants has gone viral online. “But this is what I mean, this is what I mean. We are having a conversation. Hold on, listen, everybody,” Obama was seen saying in the video before his voice was muffled by loud chants of “F*** Joe Biden”. Sharing this video, one person wrote on Twitter, “Breaking News. Barack Obama can’t control his crowd as they chant FJB. He is really upset and throwing a fit on stage. They say he wanted to stop the filming so people wouldn’t share and tweet this clip. FJB.” Archives of similar posts can be found here and here. AFWA found that this video is doctored. In the original video, the crowd was chanting Obama’s name in his support after he was interrupted by a heckler. AFWA PROBE A keyword search led us to a CNN report about a recent Obama speech being interrupted, featuring an extended version of the viral video. According to this report, on October 29, Obama was interrupted by a heckler as he discussed political civility while rallying to support Democrat Gretchen Whitmer, the Governor of Michigan, in Detroit. In the extended version of the video, Obama can be seen talking about the recent attack on Paul Pelosi, the 82-year-old husband of US Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and condemning hostility in American politics. A minute and a half into the video, a man from the crowd was heard yelling "Mr. President", interrupting Obama's speech. The heckler could not be heard properly but he continued to speak, bringing the speech to a halt. Following this, Obama confronted the heckler, and this is the part that can be seen in the viral video. However, contrary to the viral video, the crowd present at the rally started chanting Obama’s name in his support — not profanities. We also found another video from the incident tweeted by Dylan Wells, a Washington Post reporter. In this video as well, the crowd could be heard chanting in support of Obama after he was interrupted by someone from the crowd. “Sir, this is what I’m saying. We’ve got a process that we set up in our democracy. Right now, I’m talking. You’ll have a chance to talk sometime later. You wouldn’t do that in a workplace”, said Obama addressing the heckler as the heckler’s voice was muffled by raucous applause and “Obama, Obama” chants from the crowd. Another video tweeted by journalist Rachel Louise Just showed the interruption, followed by the heckler being escorted out. Interestingly, videos from the rally suggest that following this incident, Obama was interrupted by yet another heckler during this speech, a woman this time. However, she was similarly escorted out. Thus, it is clear that the widely circulating video of anti-Biden chants during Obama’s rally is not only doctored but also misrepresents the actual response of the crowd at Obama's Michigan rally.
