  • Fact Check: Video Showing Insult Of Constitution And National Flag In Canada Misrepresented As Indian Incident The video of the demonstration involving the insult of the Indian Constitution and National Flag outside the Indian Consulate in Vancouver, Canada, is being shared with a misleading claim that it occurred in India. - By: Abhishek Parashar - Published: Jun 25, 2024 at 10:18 AM - Updated: Jun 25, 2024 at 11:45 AM New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video circulating on social media shows a group of Sikhs insulting the Indian Constitution and the National Flag. The viral post claims that the incident took place in Punjab after the results of the Lok Sabha elections were announced. Vishvas News investigated this claim and found it to be false. The video is actually from a demonstration by Khalistan supporters outside the Indian Commercial Embassy in Vancouver, Canada. This incident involved the insult of the Indian Constitution and the National Flag, and the video is being misrepresented in the Indian context. What is Viral? Social media user ‘Krishna Kumar’ shared the viral video (archive link) with the caption: “Copies of the Constitution are being burnt, the tricolor is being burnt… but the blood of Bhim Army, Bhim Sena people is not boiling… where are those who save the Constitution, they used to walk with the Constitution in their hands during the elections… they won by spreading confusion among the people by saying that they are going to change the Constitution before the elections, now copies of the Constitution are being burnt by Khalistan supporters, so where have they died.” Many other users on different social media platforms have shared this video (archive link) with similar claims. Investigation The viral video clip shows a watermark resembling ‘B Media.’ By reverse image searching key frames, the original video was found on a YouTube channel named ‘Media Bezirgan,’ uploaded on June 7, 2023. According to the channel, “This is a video of a demonstration in front of the Indian Consulate in Vancouver, Canada, in which the Indian flag and the Constitution of India were insulted.” Other news reports also mention an incident where a tableau depicting Indira Gandhi’s assassination was part of a demonstration on the 40th anniversary of Operation Blue Star in Canada, which involved the insult of India’s national flag. A Hindustan Times report from June 9 states that India lodged an objection at the diplomatic level following the incident in Canada. A report from Jagran.com on June 8 said, “Indian-origin Canadian MP Chandra Arya on Saturday expressed concern over the installation of posters of Indira Gandhi’s assassination by Khalistan supporters in Canada. Arya claimed that Khalistan supporters are once again trying to create fear of violence among Hindu-Canadians by installing effigies of the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.” Punjab Jagran’s Bureau Chief, Indrapreet Singh, confirmed that no such incident took place in Punjab on the anniversary of Operation Blue Star. The user who shared the viral post identifies as a digital creator.
