India Today Fact Check
The video is not from Delhi. It’s a 2020 clip from Jaipur, Rajasthan.
As several parts of Delhi flooded on July 13, several videos of waterlogged streets and neighbourhoods made their way to social media. One particular video, allegedly shot in the national capital, however, showed flooding two days before that.
The video shows a bus moving through a flooded road. When the door opens, water gushes in. One tweet containing the video read, "Irrespective of who is in the government, the capital is sinking means the whole system is sinking!" The archived link of such posts can be seen here and here.
India Today found that this video shows a 2020 incident in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Our Probe
A reverse search of keyframes from the viral video led us to a news report published on Patrika, dated August 11, 2020, which contained a similar image. Per the report, Jaipur was badly affected by heavy rains, leaving the drainage system completely broken. Areas like Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg and C Scheme in the city witnessed waterlogging.
In the viral video, at the 14-second mark, we noticed a blue direction board on the waterlogged road. The three locations mentioned there were SMS Hospital, Raja Park, and Delhi/Agra.
We found that SMS Hospital or the Sawai Man Singh Hospital was located on Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg in Jaipur.
We looked at the area around it and found the same street on Google Street View. It was on Tonk Road beside the Narayan Singh Circle bus stand. A comparison between the Street View and the viral video can be seen below.
We also found that this video was earlier debunked by The Quint in 2020. Thus, it is clear that the viral video is not from Delhi at all.
