  • FACT CHECK: Has Farming Been Banned In The Netherlands? A post shared on Facebook claims the Dutch government banned farming in the country. Verdict: False There is no evidence to suggest farming has been banned in the Netherlands. Fact Check: Thousands of Duch farmers have been engaged in large-scale protests of a proposed government initiative to limit carbon emissions, according to Fox News. Experts warn that the protests could signal “the beginning of a global movement,” the outlet reported. The Facebook post, uploaded July 7, claims the government has now banned farming entirely. “The paid off left-wing Globalist government of Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, announced that they are banning farming in the Netherlands,” reads the post’s caption, which includes a link to an article from The Richardson Post. The claim is false. Check Your Fact found no credible news reporting to suggest the Dutch government has decided to ban all farming. There is no mention of an agricultural ban on the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality’s website or on the prime minister’s verified social media accounts. The article linked in the post appears to claim such a measure was passed by the country’s parliament, but no such bill could be found on the Dutch parliament’s website. It provides no evidence to support the claim made in the Facebook post. While there is no evidence to suggest all farming will be banned in the country, some farms are expected to close if the proposed emissions regulations are implemented, according to Dutch News. (RELATED: Does This Image Show A Farmer Stealing The Dutch Prime Minister’s Jet?) This is not the first time misinformation has spread about the ongoing protests in the Netherlands. Check Your Fact recently debunked a viral image that allegedly showed a Dutch farmer stealing a fighter jet during a protest.
