  • Last Updated on March 6, 2025 by Dr Priyamvada Quick Take A social media video claims that EarCare Ayurvedic medicine can restore hearing naturally in just a few days. After fact checking, we determined this claim is false. The Claim A viral Facebook post and video promote “EarCare” as a 100% Ayurvedic solution to hearing problems. It claims to: Strengthen ear nerves and restore hearing power - Improve brain function and overall health - Work effectively for all kinds of ear problems without surgery - Show results within a few days - Be ISO and GMP certified - Fact Check Can Ayurvedic herbs restore lost hearing? No, there is no scientific proof that Ayurvedic herbs can fully restore hearing. Hearing loss can happen due to ageing, infections, loud noise, or nerve damage. Some types, like sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), are considered permanent and cannot be reversed. While certain herbs may support nerve health, they cannot repair damaged ear nerves or bring back lost hearing in just a few days. A 2024 case study tested Ayurvedic treatments on a 42-year-old man with SNHL. He was given Nasya (nasal drops), Karnapoorana (ear oil therapy), and herbal medicines like Ashwagandha, Sarivadi Vati, and Dashmoola Arishta for 45 days. His hearing improved, but this was just one case. SNHL usually has no cure, and we need more research. Another 2024 case study treated an 18-year-old girl with mixed hearing loss using similar Ayurvedic therapies, including Nasya, Karnapoorana, Sarivadi Vati, and Chandraprabha Vati. After five sessions, her hearing improved. However, this does not prove that Ayurveda can cure hearing loss for everyone. These are isolated cases, and hearing loss often has no permanent solution. Research is still ongoing. Dr Anupam Kanodia, ENT Consultant at Dr Kanodia’s Clinic in Jaipur, explains, “Hearing loss, especially nerve-related (sensorineural), is often permanent because damaged auditory nerves and inner ear cells do not regenerate. While some Ayurvedic herbs may support overall nerve health and circulation, there is no scientific proof that they can restore lost hearing. Treatments like hearing aids and cochlear implants remain the most effective options for managing hearing loss.” Similarly, another home remedy claims that coconut oil and a bandage can heal a torn earlobe, but this is incorrect. Do the mentioned ingredients have proven benefits for hearing? Not exactly. Even though some of the ingredients in EarCare have general health benefits, there is no strong scientific evidence that they can repair ear nerves or restore lost hearing. Brahmi & Shankhpushpi: These herbs are traditionally used for cognitive support and nerve function. They may help in memory and focus, but there is no proof that they can regenerate auditory nerves or restore hearing. - Ashwagandha: This adaptogenic herb helps reduce stress and inflammation. While it supports overall well-being, memory and focus, there is no clinical evidence that it directly improves hearing or repairs ear damage. - Ginkgo Biloba: Some studies suggest that Ginkgo Biloba may improve blood circulation, which could support nerve function. However, its effect on hearing loss remains unproven. A large study on over 3,000 older adults tested whether Ginkgo could slow memory decline. After more than six years, there was no difference between those taking Ginkgo and a placebo. It did not improve memory, attention, or cognitive function. - Mulethi (Liquorice): Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, Mulethi may help with infections but has no proven role in restoring hearing or strengthening ear nerves. A 2023 review suggested it might support brain health, but this is based on animal studies, not strong human evidence. A 2016 study on 75 stroke patients found that those given licorice showed better recovery after 3 months than those on a placebo. No major side effects were reported, but more research is needed. - While these herbs may contribute to general wellness, they cannot regenerate lost hearing ability or reverse nerve damage. We spoke with Dr Muskan Thakur, BAMS, Ayurveda Consultant from Indore, to understand if these ingredients really help with hearing loss. She explained, “Hearing loss can be conductive, sensorineural, or mixed. In Ayurveda, the ear is considered the seat of Vata dosha, and hearing loss is linked to an imbalance of Vata and Kapha, which obstructs the Shabdavaha sira (hearing channels). While certain Ayurvedic herbs act as Rasayanas, supporting nerve health and reducing inflammation, hearing loss is a complex condition. Treatments like Karnapoorana with Bilwadi Tail and Nasya help clear blockages and balance Vata, but there is no strong evidence that herbs alone can fully restore hearing.” On a related note, there are claims that a concoction of mango, peepal, and jamun leaves can heal a perforated eardrum. However, this is false. Does GMP and ISO certification prove effectiveness? No, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certifications only indicate that the product is manufactured following certain quality standards. They do not guarantee that the product is effective in treating hearing loss or any medical condition. A certified product can still make misleading claims. Also, we were not able to verify this claim. Is there verified information about the product? No, the product’s legitimacy is questionable. The social media page lacks details about the manufacturer, website, or official approvals. - There are no customer reviews or clinical studies provided. - The brand asks people to share their contact numbers instead of offering a transparent purchase process, which raises concerns. - THIP Media Take The claim that EarCare Ayurvedic medicine can restore hearing naturally in just a few days is mostly false. Ayurvedic herbs may support overall well-being, but they cannot reverse hearing loss. Additionally, the lack of transparency and verifiable product details raises concerns about its legitimacy. People experiencing hearing issues should consult a qualified medical professional instead of relying on unverified remedies.
