Verdict: Misleading
They received a standard 24 day mandatory rest period, and no wrongdoing was cited.
Fact Check:
Boxing legend Mike Tyson returned to the ring in mid November when he fought influencer and aspiring fighter Jake Paul at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The man known as the âBaddest Man on the Planetâ retired in 2005, but came back for one last fight at 58 years old where he lost by decision to Paul in eight rounds.
A post on X from the outlet âSPORTbibleâ reports that both Paul and Tyson were hit wish âofficial bansâ after their fight. It does not give reasoning in the accompanying photo. (RELATED: Did Lady Gaga Discuss Encounter With Sean âDiddyâ Combs In Interview?)
The claim is true, however it is misleading. The suspensions were not given because of any wrongdoing, instead they are standard temporary bans levied by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the boutâs licensees.
In Texas, all fighters are forced to serve a 3 day rest per round of a fight they complete. Since their bout went the full eight rounds, both boxers must sit for a minimum of 24 days.
Paul has not shied away from the legality and morality of the fight, claiming that he did, in fact, go easy on Tyson. In a post-fight interview, he said that he âdidnât want to hurt someone that didnât need to be hurt.â
Neither fighter has faced any more sanctions than the standard 24 days.
