Quick Take
Amidst the current increase in Covid cases, a video has gone viral which shows a man identified as Dr. Sushil Razdan and Dr. Zarir Udwadia claiming snorting ginger can cure Omicron variant of Covid. We fact-checked and found the claim is Mostly False.
The Claim
A social media post shows a man claiming snorting ginger powder or dried ginger will kill the Omicron virus. A social media user who shared the post has identified the man as Dr. Zarir Udwadia. Likewise, another social media user on Facebook has identified the man as Dr. Sushil Razdan.
Fact Check
Is the man claiming ginger cures Covid certified doctor?
Not clear. The person in the video is neither Dr. Sushil Razdan nor Dr. Zarir Udwadia. We could not verify the identity of the man in the video. However, the available evidence is enough to prove that the man is not Dr. Sushil Razdan and Dr. Zarir Udwadia.
A simple Google Search showed us pictures of Dr. Sushil Razdan and Dr. Zarir Udwadia. Both do not look like the man in the video.
In a video, Dr. Sushil Razdan confirmed that he never made such a statement. We also found a video of Dr. Zarir Udwadia talking about the Omicron variant. In the video, Udwadia nowhere mentioned ginger powder cures Covid.
Can ginger kill Covid virus?
No. Snorting ginger powder does not kill the Omicron variant of Covid virus. The World Health Organization’s executive board president Dr. Patrick Amoth tweeted on August 8, 2020, to inform that ‘Ginger is an immune booster for the body, but they are NOT a cure for COVID-19’.
An article on the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine website also confirms diet can boost the immune system but cannot protect or cure from Covid infection.
