  • Recently, a video circulated on social media purportedly depicts an incident in Giripur, Mymensingh, Bangladesh, alleging that locals attacked Hindu homes, vandalized property, and committed acts of sexual violence. Here are some examples of such posts on Facebook: Similar claims were also shared on X (formerly Twitter): Fact-Check The Rumor Scanner team’s investigation revealed that the video does not show an incident of Hindu homes being attacked, vandalized, or women being raped in Giripur, Mymensingh, Bangladesh. Instead, it depicts a tragic incident involving the death of a mother and her three children in Purnia district, Bihar, India. During the investigation, a Facebook post dated November 8 by a user named Asad Raza Arn was found with the title, “Kilpara Gaon Pyaji Panchayat Jila Purnia Ka hai yeh Hadsha” (Archive: Link). The video in the post matches the one under discussion. The Hindi caption of the video indicates that the tragedy occurred in Kilpara village, Pyaji Panchayat, Purnia district, Bihar, India. Additionally, another video of the same incident, titled “Kilpara Purnia Bihar,” was posted on November 7 by a Facebook user named Md Garib Newar (Archive: Link), further corroborating the details of the incident. Furthermore, a report on the same incident was found on the YouTube channel BC 24 News, published on November 7 (Archive: Link). The report provides detailed confirmation of the deaths of a mother and her three children from the same family in Kilpara village, Rauta Police Station area, Bihar. Finally, an article titled “Bihar: Bodies of Woman, Three Children Found Hanging Inside Hut” was published on November 7 on the website of the Indian media outlet Press Trust of India (Archive: Link), further corroborating the incident. Conclusion A video of a separate incident from Bihar, India, has been falsely circulated online with claims of attacks, vandalism, and rape in Hindu households in Bangladesh. This claim is completely false.
