  • Fact Check: This building with news scroll of PM Modi’s victory is not the New York Stock Exchange; Old picture of London viral with the false claim This claim turned out to be false in the investigation of Vishvas News. The viral picture is from 2017. This message was run on the Thomson Reuters building located in Canary Wharf, London, and not on the New York Stock Exchange. - By: Pallavi Mishra - Published: Mar 15, 2022 at 02:48 PM New Delhi (Vishvas News). In a picture going viral on social media, a news scroll can be seen running on a building that reads “Modi wins landslide election victory in India’s biggest state.” while sharing this image, social media users are claiming that this building is New York Stock Exchange and this picture is related to the recent Uttar Pradesh election. This claim turned out to be false in the investigation of Vishvas News. The viral picture is from 2017. This message was run on the Thomson Reuters building located in Canary Wharf, London, and not on the New York Stock Exchange. What’s going viral? Sharing the viral video (archive link), Facebook user ‘Rani Avantibai Sewasamiti‘ wrote, “Just ZOOM and see at New york Stock Exchange what is displayed in Digital Display” Investigation To check the viral picture, we did a Google reverse image search on it. We found this image in a tweet dated March 12, 2017 by BJP leader Amit Malviya. The text accompanying the photo read: “News of BJP’s big win under Prime Minister Modi splashed in Canary Warf, prominent business district of London. Zoom it.. #IAmNewIndia” We also found the same image in a 2017 tweet by Rajya Sabha MP Om Prakash Mathur. Along with it was written “#बुरा_ना_मानो_मोदी_है यह समाचार हाइलाइट किया गया है कनेरी वॉर्फ़ बैंकिंग हब लंडन में , ज़ूम करें …” WHich translates to English as “Don’t feel bad, This news was highlighted on Canary Warf banking hub in London. Zoom in.” A direct keyword search for the headline “Modi wins landslide election victory in India’s biggest state” as seen in the viral post led us to a 2017 report from reuters.com which was about the 2017 victory of BJP in Uttar Pradesh Elections. We then did a Google advanced search with all the keywords we’ve found so far, such as “Canary Warf, London, Reuters.”. We came across several photographs of the London Reuters building that match the building seen in the viral image. You can see the comparison between the two buildings in the collage below. We contacted US-based journalist Pratik Goyal in this regard. Prateek, who works in New York, confirmed that the building in the viral image is not the New York Stock Exchange. The viral post has been shared by a Facebook user named “Rani Avantibai Sewasamiti”. User has 633 followers. Conclusion: This claim turned out to be false in the investigation of Vishvas News. The viral picture is from 2017. This message was run on the Thomson Reuters building located in Canary Wharf, London, and not on the New York Stock Exchange. - Claim Review : Just ZOOM and see at Newyork Stock Exchange What is displayed in Digital Display - Claimed By : Rani Avantibai Sewasamiti - Fact Check : False Know the truth!
