New Delhi (Vishvas News). A picture is going viral on social media showing Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma on a video call, appearing in a small window alongside a woman and a young child. The post claims that the woman is his wife, Ritika Sajdeh with their newborn son.
Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral claim is false. The picture has been online since September 18, 2024, whereas Sharma’s son was born on November 15, 2024. The couple has not yet revealed the face of their newborn.
What is viral?
On November 29, 2024 Facebook user ‘Cric24 News’ shared the viral picture (archive link) with the caption, “First look of Junior Rohit Sharma, son of India’s pride and Mumbai’s king Rohit Sharma.”
Investigation
To investigate the viral picture, we first conducted a reverse image search and found this picture uploaded on an Instagram profile named ‘princess__samaira30’ on September 21, 2024. However, we did not find the viral picture anywhere else.
Subsequently, we checked the birth date of Rohit Sharma’s son. According to reports, his son was born on November 15, 2024.
The couple announced the birth of their son on November 16, 2024.
It became evident that the picture was not of the ace cricketer’s newborn son. We then investigated whether the couple had shared any photos of their son. However, we found no images of their newborn, although both have shared numerous pictures of their elder daughter on their social media profiles.
The couple has revealed the name of their son. According to reports, the newborn has been named Ahaan.
We spoke to Dainik Jagran’s sports editor Abhishek Tripathi regarding the viral picture. He confirmed, “Rohit Sharma and Ritika Sajdeh’s son was born on November 15, 2024, and they have not revealed any picture of the newborn yet.”
The user ‘Cric24 News’, who shared the viral post with a fake claim, has over 30000 followers.
