Fact Old images from Hyderabad and Berlin shared in false context. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on an official visit to the United States during which he will join the US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden for a state dinner, address joint sitting of the US Congress among other programmes. In this background, multiple social media users shared images claiming to show “anti-Modi posters” in the US with the hashtag “#ModiNotWelcome,” thereby linking it to the PM’s recent visit. Newschecker fact checked two such images and found that they have been used in a false context. A photograph of a poster inspired from popular series Money Heist with text “Mr. N Modi, we only rob bank, you rob the whole nation” written on it, is being shared on social media platforms in context of the Prime Minister’s visit to the US. Those sharing the image alleged,”Posters in USA,loud and clear message from money heist Mr modi we only rob bank you rob the whole nation (sic)” Such posts can be seen here and here. Also Read: Five-Year-Old Video Of IndiGo Staffers Assaulting Passenger Resurfaces Post Airbus Deal A keyword search for “Money Heist Posters,” and “PM Modi” on Google led us to a report by Telangana Today, dated July 1, 2022, titled “Hyderabad: ‘Money Heist’ hoarding at LB Nagar calls PM Modi ‘nation robber.’” Displaying the viral photograph, it stated, “Ahead of Bharatiya Janata Party’s national executive meeting, a massive hoarding accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of robbing the whole nation was put up at LB Nagar circle…” The report also carried a tweet by the BSR party’s Y Sathish Reddy, dated July 1, 2022, featuring the viral poster with the caption “Such creativity! #Hyderabad #MoneyHeist” The News Minute report, dated July 2, 2022, also featured an image of the Money Heist-inspired ant-Modi poster, and stated, “the city’s (Hyderabad) LB Nagar, a giant hoarding was erected mocking PM Modi with a parody of Money Heist , a popular Netflix series.” A report by The Telegraph, dated July 3, 2022, also elaborated on the “sarcastic” billboard installed in Hyderabad to “welcome” the Prime Minister. Hence, an old image from Hyderabad has been falsely shared claiming to show anti-Modi posters in the US during the Prime Minister’s visit. A photograph of people holding banners with the Amnesty International logo, saying “Mr Modi,” “We don’t let you forget,” and “Gujarat 2002” has been linked to the Prime Minister’s US tour. Social media users shared it as evidence to show “anti-Modi posters in America.” Such posts can be seen here and here. Also Read: Did Shirdi Sai Trust Donate ₹35 Crore To Haj Committee? No, Viral Claim Is False A Google lens search on the viral image yielded a Reddit post, dated May 3, 2022. It carried the same photograph stating, “Indian media won’t show you this welcome of Modi in Berlin.” We also found a tweet by @IndienKoGruppe, dated May 2, 2022, carrying the same photograph with the caption, “PM Modi in Berlin.” Notably, PM Modi had visited Berlin and met the Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz in May 2022. In the image tweeted by @IndienKoGruppe, we were able to spot “Starbucks Coffee ” written on one of the buildings in the background. Taking a clue, we looked up “Starbucks coffee,” and “Berlin” on Google Street View and were able to locate the outlet that can be seen in image. Hence, over one-year-old photograph from Germany has been falsely linked to PM Modi’s latest visit to the US.
