| - An Amul advertisement mocking Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has gone viral on social media.
The board stated, "Grandfather ate, grandmother ate, father ate, mother ate, come sister you also eat, call brother-in-law as well." (translated from Hindi to English)
The message hints at the alleged corruption by the Gandhi family.
What we found: Team WebQoof fact-checked the same visual when it went viral in 2019 and found the following:
We found a post from 2019 about the same claim under which Amul's Customer Care official account had responded.
The Amul Customer Care team stated that the viral billboard is fake and provided the original advertisement.
The dairy brand initially shared the original post in January 2019 to mark Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s entry into active politics.
According to an article by the Indian Express, the dairy brand’s poster noted, ‘Family Stree,’ to highlight Gandhi-Vadra's political legacy, as her grandmother Indira Gandhi and father Rajiv Gandhi served as prime ministers of the country.
The report noted that the cartoon showed the siblings celebrating the event with toast and butter.
While investigating the claim in 2019, Team WebQoof spoke to a senior executive of daCunha Communications, the agency that does advertising for Amul, said that the topical was not issued by the company and has been photoshopped. You can read the story here.
Conclusion: The advertisement has been edited and gone viral as real on social media platforms.
