  • FACT CHECK: Does Video Show Migrants Attempting To Cross The US-Mexico Border In May 2023? A video shared on Facebook allegedly shows migrants attempting to cross the border between the U.S. and Mexico in May 2023 after the expiration of Title 42. Verdict: False The claim is fabricated. The video was taken in March 2023, months before the expiration of Title 42. Fact Check: After the recent expiration of Title 42, U.S. officials have warned of more severe consequences for illegally crossing the border between the U.S. and Mexico, including potential criminal prosecution, Reuters reported. Title 42 is the name of emergency health authority put in place allowing U.S. officials to turn away migrants on the grounds of preventing the spread of COVID-19, according to AP News. The Facebook video, claiming to take place after Title 42’s expiration, appears to show large crowds yelling and shoving against Border Patrol agents. The last part of the video shows several people running without being held back. (RELATED: Did Joe Biden’s Domestic Policy Adviser Tweet In Support Of Hitler In 2016?) “JUST IN: Massive violent caravan headed to the United States Border,” the May 12 post reads. “Will The Biden Administration do anything to stop this?” The post is not recent, however. The video was first posted to Twitter in March 2023 by Mexican news outlet Red Michoacán. Al menos 1,000 migrantes sobrepasan a la Guardia Nacional de México, e intentar apresurarse a un puesto de control en El Paso, Texas, en un intento de ingresar a los Estados Unidos. Ahí fueron detenidos por elementos del Border Patrol.#REDMichoacán pic.twitter.com/Wd3gmW1ao1 — RedMichoacán (@RED_Michoacan) March 12, 2023 “At least 1,000 migrants overwhelm the Mexican National Guard, and attempt to rush to a checkpoint in El Paso, Texas, in an attempt to enter the United States,” the tweet reads. “There they were detained by elements of the Border Patrol.” Check Your Fact has reached out to U.S. Customs and Border Protection for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received. This is not the first time misinformation has been spread online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim DuckDuckGo signed a secret deal with Bill Gates to track users online.
