The incident seen in the video reportedly took place in Igdir, Turkey, in June.
A video of an excavator rescuing a cow drowning in a canal is going viral on social media. It shows an excavator stationed on the embankment of a canal scooping out the cow and placing it on dry land.
Sharing the video, a Twitter user wrote, "That is the beauty of India..one like for those person." The archived version of one such tweet can be seen here.
India Today found that the incident did not take place in India but in Turkey.
Our Probe
A keyword search led us to several media reports published in June 2023. The Telegraph noted that the incident took place in the eastern province of Igdir in Turkey, where two cattle fell into the water. It noted that one of them was rescued by villagers, but the second one travelled about four kilometres through the waters.
The excavator machine, that was stationed on the embankment, swiftly scooped out the cow when it arrived.
Several local Turkish media reports also corroborate the location of the incident as the Calpala village in Igdir.
The video appeared to have been first shared on Reddit on June 25.
So, while India Today could not independently verify the exact location of the incident, various local and international reports make it clear that this video is from Turkey.
