  • Fact Check: Image Of Istanbul Airport Falsely Shared As Uttar Pradesh Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the picture of Istanbul city of Turkey is being misrepresented as an airport in Uttar Pradesh. By: Pragya Shukla - Published: Mar 7, 2025 at 10:59 AM - New Delhi (Vishvas News): A picture of a high-tech airport with multiple airplanes parked is going viral on social media, with claims that it is an airport in Uttar Pradesh. Some posts also state that Uttar Pradesh has a total of 21 airports. Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that the viral claim is false. This picture is not of Uttar Pradesh, but of Istanbul, Turkey. The picture of Istanbul airport is being misrepresented with a false claim. Uttar Pradesh currently has 19 airports, of which five are non-operational, and one is under construction. What is going viral? On March 4, 2025, Facebook user ‘Manoj Upadhyay’ shared the picture with the caption, ” Uttar Pradesh created history, became the first state in India to have 21 airports, this is the holy land of Lord Ram Ji, Kashi Vishwanath Ji Murli Wale and Maa Ganga…!!!” Jai Ho Investigation To verify the authenticity of the viral picture, we conducted a Google reverse image search. We found the viral picture on a website, ‘cntraveler’, which identified it as an airport in Istanbul, Turkey. The report describes the airport’s specialty, design, facilities, and advanced technology. Based on the information received, we conducted a keyword search and found a related report on the website of airport info, published on 7 April 2020. This report also confirmed that the picture is of Istanbul airport in Turkey. During our investigation, we found the viral picture on the official website of Turkish Airlines. Additionally, we found a video related to the viral picture on the official Instagram account of Istanbul Airport, shared on 30 December 2023. The video highlights the airport’s features and a part of the viral picture can be seen in the first few seconds. According to a report published on Hindustan’s website on March 12, 2024, “Uttar Pradesh is the only state in the country which has the highest number of airports. According to a report published on the website of Sansad.in, while answering a question in the Rajya Sabha, the Civil Aviation Minister had said that there are a total of 19 airports in Uttar Pradesh, out of which five are not operational, while one airport is under construction.” For further information, we contacted Rajeev Bajpai, Senior Chief Reporter-Dainik Jagran, Lucknow, who confirmed that the picture is not from any airport in Uttar Pradesh. Vishvas News has previously investigated a similar claim. The full report can be read by clicking on the link here. Finally, we scanned the account of the user who shared the photo with the false claim. We found that the user shares posts aligned with a specific ideology and has described himself as a resident of Uttar Pradesh. Conclusion: Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the picture of Istanbul city of Turkey is being misrepresented as an airport in Uttar Pradesh.
