A video showing a woman dancing in a red dress while another video showing a woman posing for paparazzi is going viral online to claim that this woman is Monalisa Bhonsale, the 16-year-old girl from Maha Kumbh Mela who recently went viral online.
How did we find out the truth?: We performed a reverse image search on some of the keyframes of the viral video and found an Instagram post shared on 28 January 2025.
The same video was shared by user '@ni8.out9' who clarified in the caption that this is created using face swap AI feature and is digitally altered.
All 538 posts on this account were inauthentic and created after manipulating real visuals of women.
The account carried over 50 altered visuals of Monalisa and all of them used face swap technology.
For the second video, we checked Instagram pages of paparazzi channels and found the original version shared by 'Bollywoodchronicle' on 16 January 2024.
The original video shows Bollywood actor Wamiqa Gabbi and not Monalisa Bhonasale.
AI-detection tools: We ran the videos through Bengaluru-based startup Contrails.ai's AI-generated content detection tools.
For the first clip of Bhonsale dancing in a red dress, their report showed medium confidence about the clip being fake.
The report said that the video had employed "Face Swap based AI manipulation" on its frames.
It provided a similar analysis for the second clip, mentioning the use of face swapping technology.
Conclusion: Manipulated videos are going viral on social media to claim that they show Monalisa Bhonsale's "new modern look".
