New Delhi (Vishvas News). Amidst the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, many misleading and fake claims are being shared on social media. In this context, citing a screenshot of a news article published in a newspaper, it is claimed that the Uttar Pradesh government will allegedly distribute five lakh condoms in the Kumbh Mela.
Vishvas News in its investigation found this claim to be fake, which is being shared to spread propaganda against the Maha Kumbh Mela. The Uttar Pradesh government has made no such announcement.
What is viral?
Social media user ‘Avanish Singh‘ shared the viral post with the caption, “What is the need of condoms in Mahakumbh Mela?”
Many users have shared it across various social media platforms with similar claims.
Investigation
Upon investigating the screenshot of the news shared in the viral post, we found no evidence of such news being published anywhere.
Also, the news referenced in the screenshot of the viral post is based on anonymous sources.
Some reports have cited the ‘Azad Sipahi’ newspaper as the source of this news but we did not find any news on its website. However, we found the URL of the news published in this regard on its website, published on January 12, 2019, and has now been deleted.

That indicates that the viral news is not recent but dates back to 2019, and it was originally shared with a fabricated claim.
Regarding the viral claim, we contacted the Additional Director (Health) of Prayagraj and in response, we were redirected to the Joint Director and Deputy in charge of the Mela area, Dr V K Mishra.
Dr Mishra said, “No government order has come regarding the distribution of condoms in the fair area.”
We also contacted Rakesh Pandey, the Prayagraj correspondent for our associate Dainik Jagran, regarding this claim. He informed us about a statement from Additional Director of the Medical Health and Family Welfare Department, Rakesh Sharma. According to the statement, “Sanitary pads are being distributed by some organisations in Maha Kumbh. Hospitals are being operated by the Health Department. However, there is no information about condoms being distributed.”
Our investigation revealed that the claim of the UP government distributing condoms at the Maha Kumbh Mela is fake. The Uttar Pradesh government has made no such official announcement.
The Facebook user who shared the viral post has over 8000 followers.
