Quick Take
A social media post claims that curry leaves, aloe vera, and shampoo can make hair grow in 15 days. We fact-checked this and determined that the claim is mostly false.
The Claim
According to an Instagram post, “Grind curry leaves, aloe vera gel, shampoo, and one cup of water together. Use this mixture to wash your hair for 15 days, and watch your hair grow long, strong, silky, and shiny.”
Fact Check
Can curry leaves make hair grow in just 15 days?
No, it may not. Curry leaves are packed with nutrients that nourish your scalp and strengthen hair. However, no study supports the idea that curry leaves can dramatically speed up hair growth in only 15 days. Hair grows about 0.5cm to 1.7cm a month, depending on factors like ethnicity. It grows fastest between ages 15 and 30, and slows down after 40. Men’s beard hair may grow faster after 50. However, hair products like shampoos or supplements don’t really speed up hair growth. While curry leaves can promote healthy hair over time, you won’t see instant results from this mixture.
Dr Rashi Soni, Co-founder and Consulting Dermatologist at Rashi Hospital in Mumbai, clarifies, “Although curry leaves contain beneficial nutrients that can promote scalp health and strengthen hair, they won’t work miracles in just 15 days. Hair growth is a gradual process influenced by genetics, lifestyle, and overall health. No single ingredient or quick remedy can dramatically speed up the process in such a short time. Consistent care, a balanced diet for healthy hair, and patience are what truly contribute to stronger, healthier hair in the long run.”
On a related note, some claims suggest that curry leaves soaked in copper water can cure anaemia and boost hair growth. However, there is no medical evidence to support these claims.
Can aloe vera give you shiny, strong hair in two weeks?
Maybe. Aloe vera is known for its moisturising properties, which can help hydrate dry hair, making it feel softer and appear shinier. A 2009 study suggests that aloe vera can also help keep the scalp clean. However, aloe vera won’t suddenly turn weak or dull hair into strong, glossy locks in just 15 days. For lasting effects, consistent use over several weeks or months is necessary. So, while aloe vera can improve the appearance of hair, it’s not a quick-fix miracle.
Dr Ekansh Shekhar, Dermatologist, Cosmetologist, Trichologist, and Aesthetic Medicine Consultant in Lucknow, shares his perspective, “Aloe vera can definitely help moisturise your scalp and add shine to your hair, but it’s not going to work miracles in just two weeks and it may not work for everyone. Strong, shiny hair takes time and consistent care to develop. While aloe vera can improve the appearance of your hair and give it a healthier look, don’t expect immediate, dramatic changes. If your hair feels dull or weak, there might be an underlying cause that needs attention. For lasting results, it’s all about patience, a good hair care routine, and sometimes seeking professional advice to address any underlying issues.”
Similarly, another home remedy suggests that aloe vera along with coffee and tea can darken grey hair permanently. However, this is not correct.
Does shampoo in the mixture help with hair growth?
No, it does not. Shampoo’s primary role is to cleanse your scalp and hair, not to stimulate hair growth. While maintaining a clean scalp is essential for healthy hair, shampoo alone won’t accelerate growth or alter your hair’s texture. Therefore, adding shampoo to this mixture won’t magically make your hair longer or stronger.
Can this mixture really transform your hair in 15 days?
Not really. Hair growth is a gradual process that depends on genetics, health, and overall care. No combination of curry leaves, aloe vera, or shampoo can give you overnight results. While these ingredients can certainly improve the health and appearance of your hair over time, expecting miracles in just two weeks is unrealistic.
On a related note, some claim that mixing orange peels in tea can resolve all hair issues, but there is no strong scientific evidence to support this.
THIP Media Take
The claim that curry leaves, aloe vera, and shampoo can make hair grow in 15 days is mostly false. While curry leaves and aloe vera offer some benefits for hair health, the idea that a 15-day treatment will give you long, strong, and shiny hair is misleading. Hair growth and strength take time, which needs patience and consistent care. No mixture can deliver instant transformations.
